Captain America: Civil War movie review

What a great movie!

I’m just going to start this review off by saying this is in fact a freaking awesome movie and you should definitely go see it. It’s one of the best Marvel movies yet! So if you don’t want to read this whole thing, then I’ll just say it now: Captain America: Civil War is worth watching.

The Story

Civil War starts off strong and only gets stronger. There’s a lot of tension between the Avengers and the government currently and the Avengers are taking sides with one side led by Tony Stark and the other side led by Steve Rogers. Tony believes that it is best if the Avengers and all other superheroes are controlled by the government while Steve thinks that it’s the worst idea because politicians have agendas and the government would hinder the Avengers from ddoing ther job. The first half of this movie is really just alot of the ideologies clashing without any real fighting between the heroes. We have a lot of scenes where the Avengers debate amongst themselves about what’s right and what’s wrong. Let me be honest….. you’re going to change which side you support throughout the runtime of this movie (that is until the last 30 minutes or so) which is awesome. Both sides make some really good points and you feel very torn between the two which makes it even harder to watch the fight ensue. Throughout the movie things continue to escalate until we have a big fight scene between both sides which was awesome. I think my favorite part about the entire movie was this fight scene and more specifically Tom Holland as Spider-Man. Someone give that guy a medal because he KILLED IT. I look forward to seeing him in future Marvel movies because he was just awesome. Don’t believe me? Go see it for yourself. Alright so I have one minor complaint about the story overall and it doesn’t really take away from the movie, but it did kind of nag at me while I watched it. The funny part is, I was kind of expecting it. Since this is a Captain America movie, you can guess that this movie very subtly takes the side of Captain America. At first the movie has two very clear sides with very debatable opinions, but as the movie progresses Captain America seems more and more like the good guy of the movie and Tony Stark is the bad guy. Now before you get angry, I know that Tony isn’t a bad guy, but there are certain situations in the movie that seemed to paint Captain America in the good light and Tony in the bad. It just annoyed me a little bit but it didn’t ruin the movie.

The Characters

I believe this is the first movie where we see everyone in it (exclluding Guardians of the Galaxy) since Ant-Man and it’s a real thrill. The ony thing that is possibly better than the story is the characters who bring the story to life. It was just awesome to see Scarlett Witch go up against Vision and to see Spider-Man face off against Ant-Man and etc. Oh and it is always a pleasure to see Bucky back on the screen as well. I was excited to see Bucky again because, frankly, I thought he did such a wonderful job with Captain America: Winter Soldier. I think he grows even more as a character in this movie and it was pretty great, getting to see him fight alongside Captain America again. Oh and did I mention Spider-Man and hw amazing he was? For the first time on screen, I actually felt like I was watching a teenager so good job there. Basically I just really liked seeing all the characters and finally getting to see them face off. It was a real good time and has officially revamped me for future Marvel movies.

The Verdict……..4.0 out of 5.0

  • Awesome story
  • great characters and great actors
  • Spider-Man
  • Awesome fight scenes

What I would like to see In Captain America: Civil War

We are approaching May 6, 2016….

which is the release date for Captain America Civil War. Okay so I’m going to be honest right from the get-go. I’m not totally pumped for this movie. I don’t know what it is really, but none of the trailers made my mouth drop or anything. Maybe it’s because I’ve been so excited for Deadpool (review coming soon) and Suicide Squad, that my mind is just like, “Yeah, that’s enough excitement for one year.” That doesn’t mean I’m not going to see the movie. Of course I’m gonna see this movie. It’s CIVIL WAR. Maybe I’m just not pumped for it because it’s another marvel movie that takes place in the Avengers
universe, which we’ve had so many movies of already. That’s just my opinion however, so don’t kill me over it. With that said, I’ve thought of a few things that I would like to see in this movie that would make me really excited for the next Avengers movie. So without further adieu…… (by the way this list is not numbered in any specific order).

The Death of an Avenger

Okay I know that a lot of people aren’t going to like this one because let’s be honest, who wants to see an Avenger die? When you look at Civil War, however, this movie is claiming to be the movie that will have a large effect on the rest of the MCU movies. Honestly, if this movie just features a few battles between the sides, but there are not really any lasting consequences, I’m going to be a little upset. I think it’s time that we see one of our heroes fall. I don’t have a preference for which one, because I actually like all of them. They’re all a great group of characters. That’s just going to make it worse (yes i will be upset even if I’m petitioning for the death of an Avenger) to see any of them die. Basically, what I’m saying, is that it’s time to get real.

 More Spider-Man

So I’m sure that most of us have heard about the addition of Spider-Man in this movie, but for those of you who might not have heard about it, Spider-Man is in this movie. Tom Holland was cast in the shoes of a young teenage Peter Parker (big surprise right?). From what I’ve gathered through social media, the Peter Parker we see in this movie will be spending most of his time out of his Spider-Man this time around. In the movie, Parker is recruited by Tony Stark as his protege. The movie will spend more time focusing on Peter Parker as a teenager and not as a superhero. Now I’m all down for some teenage Parker, but it sounds like we’ll hardly see any Spider-Man at all, which I am not down with. I’d like to see Parker suit up more than they’re letting on in this movie. If they don’t do that, then maybe in the future. Of course it’s also said that the details of the deal struck by Sony and Marvel  aren’t totally fleshed out yet so there is that.

Lasting consequences

Okay so this one kind of goes hand in hand with my commentary on the death of an Avenger. What I mean by lasting consequences, is that I don’t want this huge battle between the Avengers to happen and then a resolve is reached at the end of 2 hours. Then by the next Avengers movie, everything is fine. I really want this movie to leave a mark on every person involved in this war. Whenever I thought about Marvel making a civil war movie, (just speculation long before they even announced this movie) I thought it could make an epic trilogy of it’s own. I had never expected it to just be one movie.

 In conclusion

I can’t really tell you guys why I’m not super excited for this movie, but I would love to see these things in this movie. That’s just my opinion though. What would you like to see in the next Captain America movie? Leave a comment and let me know! By the way I will be releasing my review for Deadpool sometime this weekend. I have been waiting for my friend to turn 17 so we can go see it together and that’s why it’s taking so long. Take care guys and have a great week!

Avengers: Age of Ultron Review

Bigger and Bigger….

So the Marvel Universe is expanding more and more with every movie that they release and Avengers: Age of Ultron is the biggest one yet. This movie is the conclusion to the second phase of the Marvel Universe, so that means that phase 3 is now in play. I have to admit right now, this movie is my favorite Marvel movie so far. It was absolutely brilliant as far as the formula of it. Let’s break it down a little bit here:

The Story

The movie starts out with all of the Avengers attacking a base in some far off country (I didn’t notice what country if they mentioned it) where they find the scepter that was Loki’s in the first Avengers. They take the scepter back to the Avengers tower, where Tony Stark realizes that the blue crystal thingy that powers the scepter, has the power to create an AI (Artificial Intelligence). Tony wanted to create the AI so that the world would be constantly protected, and would no longer need the Avengers. Well Tony gets what he wished for, and a little bit more. Ultron decides that to achieve peace, he must obliterate humanity. So the Avengers are back at it…….. All in all it was a really really cool plotline. I’ve always loved storylines about humans that try to create something that will help them, only for it to backfire on them. The story was really dark too, which I always love, so that was cool too. There were, however some points in the movie where I feel as if I’ve seen it all before in the first movie. There were only a few moments when I felt this however, and besides that I was very enthralled with this movie.

The Characters

Of course we have the whole original cast returned to reprise their roles. It’s still really cool to see them together again, and kicking butt. It still feels as awesome as the first one, when they first got together. On top of that, the characters have grown so much since the first Avengers! It was definitely really awesome to see them interact with each other again, and interacting. We learn more and more about them too, giving us a really good sense of character development. They are still the same light hearted guys who always know when to crack a joke. Captain America and Iron Man still bump heads on a lot of things (CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR). Anyways, I could ramble on about the characters forever, but just know that they are everything you know and love, but with more and more color and character development. One of my favorite things about the movie, was the chemistry between the characters. There was a lot of comedy relief between the cast and they would show off their chemistry by cracking jokes and one liners.

The Future……

I sincerely cannot wait to see the next phase of Marvel’s universe. I’m getting pumped for Civil War, Infinity War, I just think it’s going to be sick! Anyways, this movie is absolutely brilliant. It will appeal to all ages, and it is a great way to spend a Friday evening!

The Verdict: 5.0 out of 5.0

  • Awesome characters played by awesome actors
  • awesome, dark story
  • lots of comedy relief
  • Altogether a really good movie
