Captain America: Civil War movie review

What a great movie!

I’m just going to start this review off by saying this is in fact a freaking awesome movie and you should definitely go see it. It’s one of the best Marvel movies yet! So if you don’t want to read this whole thing, then I’ll just say it now: Captain America: Civil War is worth watching.

The Story

Civil War starts off strong and only gets stronger. There’s a lot of tension between the Avengers and the government currently and the Avengers are taking sides with one side led by Tony Stark and the other side led by Steve Rogers. Tony believes that it is best if the Avengers and all other superheroes are controlled by the government while Steve thinks that it’s the worst idea because politicians have agendas and the government would hinder the Avengers from ddoing ther job. The first half of this movie is really just alot of the ideologies clashing without any real fighting between the heroes. We have a lot of scenes where the Avengers debate amongst themselves about what’s right and what’s wrong. Let me be honest….. you’re going to change which side you support throughout the runtime of this movie (that is until the last 30 minutes or so) which is awesome. Both sides make some really good points and you feel very torn between the two which makes it even harder to watch the fight ensue. Throughout the movie things continue to escalate until we have a big fight scene between both sides which was awesome. I think my favorite part about the entire movie was this fight scene and more specifically Tom Holland as Spider-Man. Someone give that guy a medal because he KILLED IT. I look forward to seeing him in future Marvel movies because he was just awesome. Don’t believe me? Go see it for yourself. Alright so I have one minor complaint about the story overall and it doesn’t really take away from the movie, but it did kind of nag at me while I watched it. The funny part is, I was kind of expecting it. Since this is a Captain America movie, you can guess that this movie very subtly takes the side of Captain America. At first the movie has two very clear sides with very debatable opinions, but as the movie progresses Captain America seems more and more like the good guy of the movie and Tony Stark is the bad guy. Now before you get angry, I know that Tony isn’t a bad guy, but there are certain situations in the movie that seemed to paint Captain America in the good light and Tony in the bad. It just annoyed me a little bit but it didn’t ruin the movie.

The Characters

I believe this is the first movie where we see everyone in it (exclluding Guardians of the Galaxy) since Ant-Man and it’s a real thrill. The ony thing that is possibly better than the story is the characters who bring the story to life. It was just awesome to see Scarlett Witch go up against Vision and to see Spider-Man face off against Ant-Man and etc. Oh and it is always a pleasure to see Bucky back on the screen as well. I was excited to see Bucky again because, frankly, I thought he did such a wonderful job with Captain America: Winter Soldier. I think he grows even more as a character in this movie and it was pretty great, getting to see him fight alongside Captain America again. Oh and did I mention Spider-Man and hw amazing he was? For the first time on screen, I actually felt like I was watching a teenager so good job there. Basically I just really liked seeing all the characters and finally getting to see them face off. It was a real good time and has officially revamped me for future Marvel movies.

The Verdict……..4.0 out of 5.0

  • Awesome story
  • great characters and great actors
  • Spider-Man
  • Awesome fight scenes

Suicide Squad Trailer #3 Recap

Happy Monday guys!

I hope all of you had a great weekend! I had an awesome time, getting to go camping this week with my best friends Michael and Tyler. It’s a Sunday night currently but I want to wish you guys good morning, or good afternoon, or good whenever you’re reading this. So the third trailer for Suicide Squad just dropped and my friend texted me about it so I thought I’d check it out. I have to say that this trailer does not take away any of my excitement for the movie, but I’m starting to feel like there is no need for another. Check out the trailer below….

Trailer #3 for Suicide Squad opens with a man asking a room full of people, what if Superman had decided to kidnap the president and who would stop him if he did? I really liked that. It showed that even after the supposed “death” of Superman, people are still debating over whether or not they should have been afraid of Superman. It shows continuity from Batman V Superman and it shows that us normal humans aren’t taking any risks. We are led to believe that this question transitions to the proposal for the construction of the Suicide Squad. A lethal team composed of bad guys that are ready to do some damage. The rest of the trailer is filled with some awesome action scenes and comedic moments.

Admittedly the trailer is cool. It’s got cool music and it even shows us some cool new scenes (especially of the Joker but I’ll get to that later), but this trailer doesn’t seem to serve a purpose, besides building hype. We don’t learn anything new, there’s no other plot points revealed. I don’t mind getting hyped up for this movie, but I also like being surprised. I wouldn’t mind too much if there wasn’t another trailer for this movie till the release in August (why so far away?).

Alright, so about the Joker. Did anybody else catch the scene where part of his face looked

burned? Seriously, just watch again and look closely. That scene was easily the most interesting scene in the whole trailer. I mean there were other various scenes in the trailer that made me curious but I really wanna know what happened to the Joker’s face. Another thing about this trailer before I close up, I’m getting the sense that the Joker is not the main villain here. I don’t know what it is, but I just really don’t think that the Joker is the guy that the Suicide Squad is after.

Alright so those are my thoughts on the matter at hand. What are yours? Leave a comment below and let me know! Have a great day guys and have a great week! Oh and let me give a quick shout out to all my blogging followers! I’m up to 21 now and even though that doesn’t sound like a lot to some, it’s a lot to me. It means so much guys! Thank you all for the reads and the subscriptions! It’s very very very inspiring.

Peace out!

The Walking Dead S6 E3 Recap

Spoiler Alert!

If you haven’t seen the latest episode of The Walking Dead then you should probably quit reading this. Seriously, go watch the episode and then come back and read this. Okay so last night’s episode pretty much took me by surprise as I’m sure it did to a lot of other people as well. I had grown used to seeing the unimportant Alexandrians die for the past two episodes that I felt secure that we wouldn’t be seeing a big character die anytime soon. I was wrong to feel secure about that (or was I?). I mean this is The Walking Dead we’re talking about here. Season six seems to refuse to slow down with this being the third episode to continue the storyline that started in the season premiere. This episode finds the group of survivors trying to stay ahead of the herd which is now being drawn to Alexandria by the truck horn that we saw in the second episode. The group tries to find different ways to distract the herd and stop it from moving toward Alexandria. The group of course fails to achieve this goal (they are seriously unlucky this season). This episode was another action packed edge-of-your-seat nail biter however. The intensity is not slowing down at all, but only growing if anything. Then there was a moment that

completely shocked audiences across the world. The supposed death of Glenn. I couldn’t believe my eyes as it unfolded on the screen. Glenn falling with Nicholas into the mob of Walkers. As “Glenn” was being ripped apart, my stomach actually tightened into a knot. Glenn has and always will be my favorite character. He was just an awesome guy that always knew what to do and what to say. So for me to see that happen pretty much ruined my Sunday. Some of you might be wondering why I put quotation marks around Glenn a little earlier. Well after the episode ended, I went back and watched the scene again and formed a theory that Nicholas is the one that is being ripped apart. Not Glenn. Nicholas fell on top of Glenn and is the one that is being eaten. Glenn is still in a lot of trouble but I don’t think he’s dead yet guys. Episode three ends with Rick trapped in an RV surrounded by walkers with an injured hand. Of course….. a cliffhanger. I mean who is going to help Rick?!?! Michonne and that guy (I can’t recall his name) are high-tailing it to Alexandria now. Daryl, Abraham, and Sasha are leading the rest of the herd away from the town to the middle of nowhere. Glenn is currently indisposed at the moment. We are three episodes into this season guys and it’s already too much for me. I can’t handle the stress! What were your thoughts on the episode? Do you think Glenn is dead? How is RIck going to get out of this jam?

House of Cards (First impressions)

Why sleep?

So I just started watching this show House of Cards (yes I know, it’s been out forever), and after watching a few episodes on Netflix, I decided to write a review, or at least a first impressions post. I have talked to a lot of friends about the show, who all seemed to be on the rail about watching it. Everyone I talked to had said they just weren’t sure about even giving the show a chance. Well I’m writing this post to tell you that THIS SHOW IS WORTH WATCHING! Let me explain….

The audacity……

First off, let me just tell you now, this show is meant to show the pure dark side a politician can have. In this case it is Frank Underwood, played by the talented Kevin Spacey. Frank Underwood is a simple man, driven by the want of power, so obviously politics suits him pretty well. The show itself is actually very daring and in a very cool way. We all know that politics tends to be shady, but we’ve never seen it shown in an entertainment fashion. That is without a doubt, the thing that makes this show stick out the most. And boy is it entertaining……. It”s just very cool to see Frank Underwood work his way through politics. I am very excited to continue watching the show and see the way things play out for Frank and countless others. One of the things that might scare people about the show (it scared me too) was that, since it is based on our current date politics, it would be hard to understand it. In a way that is true. I felt like that for the first two episodes, always trying to keep up with what was going on. This is definitely a show you have to pay attention too. IF you do, by the third episode, you really start to get a sense of where things are going and how it all works. The show does not fail at bringing you into this mad world of politics. Don’t let that scare you away from this show.

The characters

Frank Underwood is the main character in a show full of them. Seriously every episode, a new character is introduced. Sometimes the feeling of it can be overwhelming, if I’m honest. It is especially frustrating when you don’t remember somebody’s name. Like I said though, this is a show you have to pay attention too. All of the characters are played by some really talented actors though, and it really helps in enveloping you. I think that it is really the characters that make this show work, so it is really helpful that they have good actors playing the parts. Another thing I like about the show is watching the characters react and grow from their situations (unless it’s Frank).

The slow story

I’ll be honest with you about the story. It is slow. Especially for the first few episodes, when you are trying to get into it. I imagine that is where most people stop watching the show, within the first two or three episodes. It is all dialogue ad shady politicians. If you’re not into that kind of thing, then this is definitely not your show. The story starts off with Frank Underwood, the current majority whip of the congress, looking to be promoted to Secretary of State. Long story short, someone breaks a promise, and Frank is stuck at being Majority Whip (for now). Now Frank is trying to find ways to help himself get farther up the ladder. When the show starts, you can tell that Frank is a very ambitious man (very) and he won’t let anything get in the way of that. He bribes people, blackmails, lies to make his way to the top of the food chain. It is a very slow story, but once you are into the show, it actually makes for a very intriguing plot. So yeah, if you don’t like short stories, keep searching.

The Verdict so Far: 3.5 out of 5

  • slow story
  • good characters, good actors/actresses
  • Confusing at some points

This show won’t be for everyone. I can already think of a number of my friends who wouldn’t care very much for it. But if you appreciate good character development, and a good story (even if it’s a little slow) then you just might like the show. THe show doesn’t really do anything wrong. It just matters on who is watching it.
